Bill Young Honored with ICBA Civility Award
We are pleased to celebrate Bill Young’s receipt of the 2016 Theodore W. Swift Civility Award from the Ingham County Bar Association. Recently retired as a shareholder from our firm, Bill always demonstrated what it means to be civil in the legal profession. No matter what, Bill’s door was always open, making himself available for any and every question his vast experience and knowledge could answer. By handling delicate matters with compassion and understanding, rather than aggression and intimidation, Bill illustrated how one can be effective and respectful at the same time. He possesses a humbleness that many with his talent would be unable to maintain.
Whether it was a legal assistant, associate, or partner, Bill treated those with whom he was working as equals, taking into consideration their thoughts and ideas with openness and appreciation. This approach was no different in interacting with opposing counsel. It was no wonder that his nomination for this award was initiated by the law firm against whom Bill had a substantial amount of his cases over his career. There are very few in this profession who have such an impact on the opposition; Bill is one of those special few and we are honored to have had the opportunity to work with him.
